HP 4250 PRINTER PRINT SMUDGE ON PAPER

Q: Whenever we print a document we find our hp laserjet 4250 smudging on the paper in a number of different places.  Since smudging on our print documents has started happening we have tried cleaning the 4250 but still no no avail.  When we inspect the fuser it looks like there is a mark over the center of it.  The spots on the fuser seem to correlate with how our hp laserjet 4250 is smudging on the page.  I should probably just change the fuser correct?

A: There are certain ways we can test what is causing the smudging with the hp 4250 printer.  The half way test as it is referred to will help isolate between the toner cartridge or the fuser assembly of the printer.  To perform a half way test with the printer, put the paper in the tray 1.  Start printing and once the paper is roughly 60% inside lift the toner access lid.  The hp laserjet 4250 will stop and the paper will jam underneath the toner cartridge.  Pull out the toner cartridge and inspect the paper that has printed.  The toner has not yet been fused to the paper by the printer’s fuser, so you will just want to look at the page vs pull it out.  If you notice smudges on the page then you can be certain the toner is smudging the print.  If you do not see smudged print, then you can be certain the 4250 fuser unit is smudging the print.

Hp laserjet 4250 ghost printing (light repetition of print)

Q: We have a hp laserjet 4250 ghost printing, light repetition of print on the page.  When we print text it seems as though the print that is bolded will lightly repeat itself every inch and a half or so down the side of the page.  We tried replacing the toner and still the hp 4250 was ghost printing.  I have heard that the 4250 fuser can ghost print if it is not printing properly.

A: Ghost pringting is a very common problem not only with the hp laserjet 4250n printers but all hp laser printers.  Printers much like any other machine has parts that will wear with time.  The hp 4250 fuser assembly combines heat and pressure to bond or fuse the toner to the paper.  When this part of the printer wears out it will fail to properly bond the toner which can result in your 4250 ghost printing, or smudging, or just over all poor print quality.

HP Laser 4250 smearing toner on letterhead and envelopes

Q: We have an hp laserjet 4250 printer smearing print on letterhead and envelopes.  After looking online we discovered that a worn 4250 fuser assembly can compromise the print quality.  We purchased an hp laser 4250 maintenance kit and installed the rollers and fuser.  After installing the 4250 maintenance kit the print quality for normal paper improved, though the print was still smearing or flaking on letterhead and envelopes.  It almost looks like the toner isn’t sticking to the paper.  I have been using this specific letterhead and envelope for sometime now and the 4250 never had a problem printing this before.  Any ideas?

A:  This is a misunderstood problem with the 4250 series and really for many hp laser printers.  Most tend to point the finger at the fuser or toner or even the media.  It really isn’t any of these that cause the 4250 smearing print problems, but a setting in the computer that needs to be adjusted and sometimes a fuser mode in the printer.  When printing heavier cardstock or envelopes that have are having print problems like smudging or flaking you need to specify in the computer that the paper type is letterhead or cardstock.  In some instances you need to change the fuser mode for envelopes in the 4250.  That will solve you problem

HP LASER JET 4250 SMEARING INK ALL OVER THE PAGE

Q: I have an hp laser jet 4250 smearing the ink all over the page.  It does not seem to matter what paper tray I am printing from or what kind of media I am using: envelopes letterhead et.  I have read that this can happen when power supplies on the 4250 are waning.  Does this sound like my hp 4250 printers power supply is going bad or something else.

A:  When the power supply on a laser 4250 is going bad you will typically see errors or other types of print defects not mentioned in your above post.  In this situation I would say it is probably a faulty fuser or toner causing your 4250 to smear ink on the page.  Please try the halfway test.  That test will isolate the toner from the fuser.  After you have determined replace either the toner or the fuser and your hp 4250 will be up and running as it should.

HP LASERJET 4250 PRINTER PRINTING BLACK TONER SPECKS ON PAGE

Q:  Our hp laserjet 4250 is printing black toner specks all over the page.  We have tried cleaning our printer with air and also replaced our 4250 fuser assembly, but the problem persists.  I have heard that faulty transfer rollers can cause this.  Does this sound like I have a bad transfer roller?

A:  It is very rare that a transfer roller goes bad on the hp laser printers, and when it does the result is not a 4250 printing black toner specks on the page.  Since you have already replaced the fuser assembly I think the next step would be to replace toner cartridge.  That should take care of your speckling problem.

HP LASERJET 4250 POOR PRINT QUALITY

Q: I have owned a hp laserjet 4250 printer for 3 years and it has printed without fail until about two weeks ago.  It started subtlety with what appeared to be extra toner on the paper, but then grew into a full on mess before long and now it is just my 4250 with poor print quality.  I have never had service on my HP and was wondering what kind of service, if any, needs to be done and is this something that can be repaired.

A:  Hp laserjet printers, especially a model in the 4250 series, are designed to be serviced on a meter, page count, basis, and are designed to run for a considerable amount of time.  Routine maintenance on hp laserjet 4250 printers is done in the form of maintenance kits.  These are rated for 200,000 copies but when you factor in operating environment and media type they usually only last about 150,000.  Print a configuration page  to see how many pages have been printed on your printer.  If they fall into that range purchase a maintenance kit and install it.  That should solve your problem and fix your hp laserjet 4250 poor print quality.  You do want to check the toner first though with a halfway test.

4250 PRINTER LEAVING DOTS ON DOWN THE SIDE OF THE PAGE

Q:  When we print we are finding our HP laser 4250 making dots down the side of the page. These dots are evenly spaced and appear on every page that we print.  We purchased a cleaning kit for the hp 4250 but it did not help remove the dots on the page.  Do you have any ideas

A:  Dots down the side of the page of a laserjet 4250 printer or any laser printer for that matter are almost always going to be a toner cartridge issue.  The drum on the toner cartridge is most likely the culprit, though it could be the mag roller.  Unfortunately there is no practical way of repairing the HP 4250 toner cartridge so if you want to rid your hp laserjet 4250 of dots on the page its best to just replace the toner.  Follow the 4250 printer halfway test and proceed accordingly

HP LASERJET 4250 DTN MAKING MARKS ON PAGE

Q: I have an hp laserjet 4250 making marks on the page when I print.  There really doesn’t seem to be an consistency that I can see, though only in its frequency.  I have tried cleaning the printer but it is till leaving marks on the page.  Any suggestions

A: When you find your hp laser 4250 leaving marks on the page you need to do some basic troubleshooting like isolate the point where the 4250 printer is making marks in the page.  You can do this by using the hp 4250 halfway test.  This will tell us if the printer is making marks at the toner cartridge or if the fuser is making the marks on the page.  If you find the marks on the page at the toner cartridge then replace the toner.  If you find the marks at the fusing assembly then replace your fuser assembly.
